Automotive SEO Strategies

Automotive SEO strategy is easy. Get more people to visit your website(s) and in turn, get more people into your showroom to buy your cars. The strategy is simple, the implementation is a bit trickier. Just how do you get more people to land on your website? The answer of course is with automotive SEO also known as Search Engine Optimization.

SEO, automotive or otherwise is the art and science of having your website show up high on search engine pages for the terms (Keywords) of your choice. Unfortunately, your competition also wants their website or websites to show up high in the rankings too. So what you have is a battle Royale of sorts taking place for every industry and category on the web.

Smart marketers know that this is a game that can be won. There is no reason that you should not rank highly on the search engines. The reason only a few do is because only a few actually work at it. Let me be clear, this is not easy, it is not quick and it is not cheap. But it is, without a doubt worth it. He ranks highest enjoys the bulk of the spoils. And in today's economy, the spoils are won on line. Newspaper, radio, yellow pages and TV don't even come close to having the impact that the Internet does.

Your job as a dealership owner or manager is to plot out exactly what you want out of the web, then go after it. Truthfully, you probably will not be able to do it on your own. It is possible, but you would have to allocate the bulk of your time to do it. So a 3rd party either in house or outsourced will probably be needed for you and your dealership to conquer the digital battlefield.

Look At How Effecitve Auto Dealer SEO Can Be

On Page Automotive SEO Strategies

There are two main facets of automotive SEO -- On page and off page. On page is all about having your site set up correctly with the right title tags, H1 Tags, keywords etc. Off Site SEO is all about generating incoming links to your website.

As far as on page SEO goes, there are a few main things you should concern  yourself with for an automotive website. The main areas of concern are 1) Having proper title tags, 2) Having Good H1 Tags and 3) A fresh and ever increasing amount of solid, keyword rich content. There are other things that are important, but they will have to be a topic covered in another Hub.

Example of a Title Tag

Automotive SEO Title Tags

A Title Tag is simply what you elect to name your web page. Every web page on your site has a title. You can read the title at the very top of the web browser you are using. This is a very important consideration. Your title tag tells the search engine what the topic of the web page is. If you own a Saab dealer in Boise, your title tag should be very descriptive. I have seen countless auto dealers drop the ball here. Many simply use the name of the dealership as the title tag. EX: Joe's Saab Dealership. Doing this eliminates your website from so many potential searches. A better Title Tag would be something like: "Saab Dealer Bose, ID|Certified Pre-Owned Saab| Joe's Saab" This is much more descriptive and relevant to many searches on line.

Great title tags should be written for every page on your website. The titles should be as complete and as informative as possible.

The Importance Of H1 Tags

The Importance of H1 Tags For Automotive SEO

Simply put, an H1 Tag is how you would identify what the headline of your web page is in HTML which is the code with which websites are written. Normally, when you put your headline inside of H1 tags, the text becomes big and bold, just as you would expect a headline to look. Many search engines and Web indexes will allow terms found in the H1 tag a huge boost in keyword relevance.

A mistake that many webmasters make is that they try to stuff too many keywords in their H1 tags. For one, it looks rather appealing on the page, and second, it may be construed as spam by the search engines. Your H1 text should be a simple, to the point headline that contains the main keyword. If I were writing the H1 tag for this capsule, it would be something like:

<h1>Why Are H1 Tags So Important For Automotive SEO?</h1>

You should go through your site to determine if it contains H1 tags, and if it does, you should check to make sure they are relevant and to the point.

Fresh Content Rocks

The Need For Fresh Content To Improve Search Engine Rankings

The final on page SEO factor that I will be discussing in this Hub, is the need for a constant stream of new, fresh content on your website. Why? Think of a search engine such as Google as a hungry lion in the jungle. It's mission is to find something to eat. Where do you think the lion will hunt for his food? Of course he is going to hunt where the food is. By the watering hole where the gazellas hang out. The same is true for Google and every other search engine. They will go where the food is. In  your case that is where they will find new, fresh and relevant content to index. If your site is stale, never changes, offers nothing new, you will give the search engines no reason to come back an visit.

Another benefit of fresh content is that it increases the amount of page rank that you can funnel to other web pages on your site. That too is a topic for another day. But keep this in mind: As far as SEO goes, the more relevant content on your site, the better. Content can be articles, blog posts, videos, inventory ( You should make your inventory descriptions as thorough and complete as possible).

Powerful Automotive SEO

Where To Get Automotive SEO Help?

It is not easy work optimizing your website and maintaining any rankings you achieve. Since so many people are constantly trying to knock you off and take your place, you have to work equally as hard when  you reach the top as you did trying to get there. Most car dealerships do not have the time, expertise or patients to do this work and most successful dealerships hire professionals to do this job.

Do not be fooled by your website provider when they say, "our site is SEO ready". This is a joke. As I have outlined here, SEO is a constant grind, in a system that is constantly changing.
